Meet Our Attorneys
Robert O. Effner (Bob) is a native of Terre Haute. He is
married to Margie and has two sons, Matt and Mike.
Bob received his undergraduate degree from Purdue University and his law degree
from the Indiana University School of Law at Indianapolis. He has been
practicing law in Terre Haute since 1975. During his years of law practice, he
has been a deputy prosecutor, a public defender, and served as Corporation
Counsel (City Attorney) for the City of Terre Haute for thirteen years. He now
devotes all of his professional efforts to the clients of Effner Law Firm.
Bob has been active in the community (coaching youth sports teams and serving on
the board of directors of several local organizations) and his profession
(former President of the Terre Haute Bar Association). His professional
affiliations include the Terre Haute Bar Association, the Indiana Bar
Association, and the Indiana Trial Lawyers Association.
Matthew R. Effner (Matt) was raised in Terre Haute. He is married to
Cathy (Robinson) Effner and has twin daughters, Caroline and Olivia.
Matt attended St. Patrick Grade School, Sugar Grove Elementary School, and
Woodrow Wilson Junior High School. He is a 1988 graduate of Terre Haute North
Vigo High School and a 1992 graduate of Purdue University. Matt received his law
degree from the Indiana University School of Law at Indianapolis in December,
1995.
In 1996, Matt joined his father, Robert O. Effner, in the practice of law as an
associate and became a partner in Effner Law Firm in 2000. Matt actively works
in several areas of law, including Personal Injury, Criminal Law (Felonies and
Misdemeanors), Bankruptcy, and Family Law, among others. In addition to his
private practice, Matt has been a part-time public defender since 1997. When not
working, Matt enjoys playing sports, particularly tennis, reading, and time with
his family. He is a member of St. Patrick Church and has been active in several
local organizations, including Leadership Wabash Valley and the Terre Haute Bar
Association. His professional affiliations include the Terre Haute Bar
Association and the Indiana Bar Association.
